Christmas is a traditional festival in the West. The church first celebrated the coming of Jesus by holding a midnight mass on Christmas Eve on December 24, that is, in the early morning of December 25. Therefore, it is also called “Christmas Day”. So Christmas is a religious holiday.
In fact, the date of Jesus’ birth is not recorded in the Bible, and Christmas is publicly determined by later generations. In the calendar commonly used by Roman Christians, it was found that the page of December 25, 354 AD recorded: “Christ was born in Bethlehem, Judah.” Therefore, people gradually believe that December 25 is Jesus’ birthday.
It is said that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was pregnant because of the Holy Spirit. God sent an envoy in a dream to tell Joseph that he would marry Mary, who was unmarried and pregnant. He named the child “Jesus”, meaning that he would save the people from their sins. It is similar to the birth of the Chinese emperor. One expresses the divine right of the emperor, and the other expresses the salvation of all living beings.
When the Virgin Mary was about to give birth, the Roman government ordered all the people to register in Bethlehem. When Joseph and Maria arrived in Bethlehem, it was already late. They could not find a hotel to stay, but only a stable to live in. That night, Mary gave birth to the Son Jesus in the stable. In order to commemorate the birth of Jesus, later generations set the 25th of December as Christmas Day to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Since December 25 has been recognized as Christmas Day, it has become an important festival for Christians of all sects and even non Christians. Christmas cards, Santa Claus, Christmas stockings, Christmas hats, Christmas trees and so on gradually appeared in the public’s view, and then gradually became commercialized and politicized, becoming a global comprehensive festival, which is a major commercial, entertainment and religious festival.
